One of the main challenges before creating our company was to decide on a name. We know that the name of the company can say lot about the philosophy behind it, and we wanted ours to be just right!
Since our main idea was the work with natural dyes and botanical prints that name had to be connected to nature. But we did not want also to hide our backgrounds deeply connected with sciences. What a task!
Alchemy is often connected to the pursuit of turning various things into gold. However, the word itself is defined as the process of taking something ordinary and turning it into something extraordinary, sometimes in a way that cannot be explained. This resonated with the idea of using plain wool and common plants to produce beautifully dyed yarn.
The one difference between our craft and Alchemy is that natural dyes can be explained. Although the results might sometimes be unexpected, the explanation is always there if you care to search for it. It is chemistry! Nature is chemistry and it is everywhere you look.
Since we are based in the south of Sweden we also wanted a name that would connect to the location, hence the fusion of the words allt (all) + kemi (chemistry) for Alltkemi.
With this play of words holding so much meaning, we felt we were almost ready to dive in. But wait, how to convert all this into an image?
Here above is our logo, and we think we nailed it! All the ideas and feelings contained in Alltkemi can be read from it. It features an aromatic ring (the hexagon) with an oak leaf in its heart, uniting the tangible nature and the seemingly invisible chemistry that orchestrates all the beautiful things we are planning to bring to you with our yarns and products.
